HJ Gaspard
CEO
Before joining HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Beaumont as Chief Executive Officer in April 2010, HJ Gaspard served as chief executive officer in the Central Louisiana area for the past seven years; first at Winn Parish Medical Center, Winnfield, and then at Oakdale Community Hospital, in Oakdale, La. Currently, he has more than 32 years of combined experience in the healthcare industry.

He received a Master of Business Administration from Southwest University. His professional affiliation includes membership of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Having worked in Beaumont before, HJ is excited to return to the Southeast Texas gulf coast region.

Linda Smith, M.D.
Medical Director
Dr. Smith has served as medical director at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Beaumont since 1994. She is responsible for clinical leadership and supervision of inpatient and outpatient medical services; defining the scope and characteristics of services provided, developing and monitoring standards of care, formulating and implementing policies and procedures, and presenting educational programs to the hospital’s medical staff, other allied professionals, and the community.

Sam Joseph Coco, MPT
Director of Therapy Operations
A Beaumont native, Sam received a bachelor’s degree from Lamar University in general studies. He then matriculated to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where he received a bachelor’s degree in health science and a master’s degree in physical therapy. He joined HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in 2001 and has been the director of therapy operations since 2005.

Melissa Doucet
Director of Marketing Operations
Melissa joined HealthSouth in October 2006. As the director of marketing operations, she oversees the hospital’s internal and external marketing efforts, as well as the admission process for our patients. Combining more than 17 years of sales and management experience along with an educational background in accounting from Lamar University, Melissa is an expert in market analysis and business development. She is a native of southeast Texas and is a member of many civic organizations, including the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, Beaumont Senior Citizen Advisory Committee, HealthCare Networking Association and R.S.V.P. Advisory Council.

Tracey Allen
Controller
Tracey Allen joined HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Beaumont in December 2007. She received her bachelor's of science degree in accounting from Almeda University and began her career in healthcare financial management in 1989. She has worked in accounting for more than 17 years with experience in home health, physician practice and hospital fiscal management. Prior to moving to Beaumont six years ago, Ms. Allen lived and worked in the Houston area for the past 25 years. Her interests involve traveling, both near and abroad when time permits, and enjoying spending time with her miniature long-haired dachshund “Millie”.

Sonia Umejiaku, RHIA
Director of HIMS & Quality Standards and Risk Management
Sonia received a bachelor’s degree in medical record science from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, which is near her home town of Jeanerette, Louisiana. She is a member of the American, Texas, and Southeast Texas Health Information Management Associations and is credentialed as a Registered Health Information Administrator. She is an advisory board member for the Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) Health Information Technology program and is an LIT guest lecturer. Sonia started her healthcare career in New Orleans then moved to Texas in 1994, where she continued in the field of Health Information Management. With more than 20 years of experience, she joined the HealthSouth team in January of 2008, as Director of HIMS, Quality Standards and Risk Management.

Joanna Donica
Director of Human Resources
Joanna joined the HealthSouth team in 2006 as human resource manager. She holds a bachelor’s degree in human resources/personnel management from Washington State University. After graduating in 2000, Joanna began her career in Beaumont, working as a human resource coordinator in the banking industry and at a local media outlet.

Sandy Irvin
Chief Nursing Officer
With a bachelor’s degree from Lamar University and more than 18 years experience as a registered nurse, Sandy is one of the first smiling faces our new employees meet at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital. As our chief nursing officer, she provides a valuable resource for hospital staff members, patients and family members by supplying up-to-date information on our rapidly-changing healthcare horizon.
